The Quilin in China represents auspiciousness. The Quilin is a good monster that will not hurt other animals and plants. Quilin is monster who has a dragon head, horse or deer body, ox tail, and five-color pattern on back and yellow hair on stomach. So the custom of Chinese New Year came from that.Īncient China has four auspicious monsters who are Quilin (麒麟), Phoenix (鳳凰), Turtle (龜) and Dragon (龍).
